beautiful villages in Andorra. So, let's hit the road!
The 6 most beautiful villages in Andorra:
1) Pal
Pal is located just 25 minutes from the capital Andorra La Vella and is
the most romantic municipality in Andorra. Even if you only stay there
for a little while, you will already want to stop time to be able to
enjoy the city even more. The little gem of this village is the church
"Sant Climent de Pal" dating from the eleventh century, making it one of
the oldest Romanesque buildings in the country.
You can also find the Romanesque Arts Interpretation Centre in Pal. It
represents the evolution of Romanesque art in Andorra through
audiovisuals and exhibitions. You can go alone or pay for a guided tour,
available in several languages. The duration is 45 minutes.
A good idea is to combine the visit of the city center with that of the
church. There is also a souvenir shop in which you can go shopping. If
you go with your children, it is a guarantee that they will not be
bored. Moreover, there are also many activities designed for children,
such as many multimedia and audiovisual rooms.
Pal is nestled in the mountains and thereforeenjoys easy access to the
ski slopes,it's perfect for riders.
2) The Vouchers
Les Bons is also known as the "museum village" of Andorra. This town is
located just 15 minutes by car from the capital. The village has
retained its authentic and traditional charm over the ages.
Les Bons is home to the great Arab baths "Reina Mora" as well as the
wall of its ancient medieval castle. However, the biggest point of
interest in this village is the church of San Román built on a rock in
the twelfth century. It contains splendid Romanesque and Gothic murals.
Will Les Bons and its journey back in time be your favorite?
3) Ordino
As Andorra is a very small country, each village is located very close
to the capital, which therefore allows tourists to travel very easily.
Ordino is called the "cultural capital of Andorra". It is a destination
acclaimed by locals to go on a weekend getaway. In good weather, you can
enjoy a drink on a terrace in the sun.
Ordino is a very flowery village. Museums make it an interesting place
for curious travelers. What you absolutely must see is the
Areny-Plandolit House and the Rossell House that depict life in the
area, from the fifteenth century to the present day. The Postal Museum
is another of Ordino's tourist attractions. The building itself is worth
a visit thanks to its typical Pyrenean architecture and balconies
covered with flowers.

4) Fontaneda
Fontaneda is probably one of the most isolated villages in Andorra, but
also one of the most remarkable. It is an ideal destination to recharge
your batteries for a while without anyone disturbing your holiday. Just
a 23-minute drive from the capital, this picturesque village is
surrounded by forests and vineyards. You will notice that the streets
are not paved, which adds even more to the traditional charm of this
village. While you're there, enjoy a visit to The Church of Saint
Miguel. In addition, if you like hiking or cycling, you can the road to
the 'Coll de la Gallina'. This pass is located at 1907 m above sea
level, but the view from its summit is priceless.
Fontaneda and its picturesque geographical location make it an ideal
place for photographers who want to capture a beautiful memory of their
holidays.
5) Llorts
If you want to get off the beaten track and discover charming places off
the tourist circuits, the beautiful village of Llorts is all you need.
It is located on the edge of the highway that connects Lake Tristaina
and the northern part of the Valira River. You will also have the
opportunity to walk the '' Ruta del Ferro '' (the Iron Route). The route
of the route will take you a few hours, but it is a pleasant experience
for the whole family. You will visit the most emblematic places of the
important metallurgical activity that occupied the country until the
nineteenth century. Nature lovers will not be left out, as the wild
landscapes will enrich the visit.
In addition, Llorts is the place with the most beautiful flowers in the
area. A feast for the eyes of locals and visitors alike.
6) Meritxell
Our last but not least village suggestion is Meritxell. The village is
home to Andorra's best-known sanctuary, built in the 70s. Nowadays it is
a modern building, but at the time it was a sanctuary with ancient
architecture. Ricardo Bofill, famous Spanish architect, is the one we
should thank for this work of art. Even if, originally, his project was
rather in a Romanesque style before a fire destroyed the initial
building. However, its final architecture is just as (if not more?)
successful, and attracts the attention of many visitors.
Andorra is therefore a little piece of paradise that charms visitors
with its rich culture and its many picturesque villages. If Andorra
attracts you, then take a look at the many activities it offers. In
addition, if you come with children, we have an excellent article on
family activities to do in Andorra. So treat yourself!
