How to Apply Online for a Learner’s Licence in Tamil Nadu

  • Applicant must be above 16 years of age to apply for a motorcycle without gears or one less than 50 cc.

  • Visit www.sarathi.nic.in, the official website of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and select the “Status of Online Application” option.

There are instances where your Learner’s Licence might be damaged or torn. There is also a possibility it might be stolen or misplaced. Driving without a valid Learner’s Licence or driving without having a Learner’s Licence is a punishable offence. In such situations, an application for a duplicate licence is to be made immediately. Procedure for Applying for a Duplicate Learner’s Licence:

  • The applicant has to submit the application and supporting documents in person and pay the application fee to the RTO where the Learner’s Licence was issued.
  • If the RTO is not the same, then an NOC is to be obtained from that RTO by the applicant and submitted along with the application.
  • The RTO will verify the information and the duplicate Learner’s licence will be sent by post to the applicant’s address as mentioned on the form.

Please note- the duplicate Learner’s Licence will be issued for the period of the original- that is, the validity of the duplicate will be the same as the original.
