Introduction
Attributes are the best way to really fine tune your Oodle API search. Being able to query on specific attributes is where Oodle and the Oodle API pulls away from the pack and becomes very powerful for you.
Example Usage
Setting attributes is easy. Just build a comma-delimited list and send it our way in the “attributes” parameter. See the “attributes” section of the listings method documentation for more info.

“Refinements”
For many of the attributes listed on this page, we cannot provide the entire list of values for a given attribute. There are too many to list.
For example, there are thousands of values for the “company” attribute (the company associated with a job listing). The full list would include every company with a job in the Oodle index.
So, how do you get those values then? Answer: From the “refinements” block in the API response.
If you set “&refinements=full” on your API request, then — in addition to listings — you’ll also get a full set of “refinements”. These “refinements” represent additional parameters you can set on followup queries to further refine your search.
One of the pieces of information within “refinements” is an “attributes” structure. That’s where the meat is. Here is a small piece of API response for a vehicles query with “refinements=full”:

In the example above, we did not set the “features” attribute. As a result, Oodle is letting you know that if you run the same query, but include “features_air_conditioning” as an attribute, there will be 31055 results.
This “refinements” block is where attribute values for the “big” attributes (e.g. company, make, model) can be found. There’s magic in the “refinements”. Use it and you’ll agree. 🙂
Other Attribute Values
In the Oodle API response we send back, you may come across values not listed above. There are many aliases of the values we showed on this page.
For example, with the “hair_color” attribute, “brunette” and “chestnut” are values you may see in some listings, but they are both simply aliases for the core value of “brown”.
Bottom line: If you use the core values above on your API requests, you’ll be perfectly fine!
