This Sunday (August 21, 2002), a new Children’s Day is celebrated. In this context, merchants closed the period prior to this celebration with a strong economic recovery in terms of sales. Games and toys were the most chosen, and the sector managed to exceed last year’s levels, registering an increase of 2% in units . Thus, it was reported this Saturday by the Argentine Chamber of the Toy Industry (CAIJ).

In toy stores with a 50% share of national toys, the average receipt was around $1,800 per unit. While in toy stores, which offer 90% imported products, the average ticket was $6,000, the entity said in a statement.

Children’s Day “explains 60% of sales for the sector and managed to slightly exceed last year’s levels,” they remarked from the chamber.

How were the sales for Children’s Day?

According to the entity, 80% of sales were made through the National Government’s Now 12 program and bank promotions.

Among domestically manufactured products, the ones with the best performance were inventive board games and educational toys .

Meanwhile, other highly sought-after products are blocks, modeling masses and early childhood toys (0 to 3 years), which account for 40% of the supply of toys such as inserts, rattles and gyms for babies; walkers and skateboards also sold very well.

Children’s Day and increases in toys

Children’s Day came this year with a very heavy burden for the pocket: compared to last year, and although there may be variations between national or imported products, the increases reach up to 70% , according to the Argentine Chamber of Industry of the Toy (CAIJ) at A24.com .

Julián Benítez, Manager of Foreign Trade and Institutional Relations of CAIJ, explained to this medium that the national toy increased less than 50% . In that sense, he detailed that there are categories where the increases touched the maximum peak of 45%, 48%, and other cases in which they climbed 25%. Others, on the other hand, such as dough or slime, skates, and even tricycles, did not register increases .

The scenario raised by the businessman regarding imported toys, which registered increases of 70%, is different . « Since not everyone can access the official exchange rate, they apply it to the price . Other components also have an impact, such as freight, which with the pandemic went from 2,500 to 10,000 dollars . Or the cost of legal studies and precautionary measures that they file to be able to enter products,” they explained from CAIJ.
