How to Get a Driving License in Rajasthan
An official document provided by the Regional Transport Offices (RTO) in India, a permanent license or a driving license allows customers to drive specific categories of vehicles based on his/her requirements. This legal document is provided to candidates once they successfully pass the required test conducted by officials from RTO in Rajasthan.
Candidates will have to ensure that their driving license is in their possession at all times and will have to produce it whenever a law official asks for it. This license is proof of the candidate’s eligibility to operate motor vehicles. A driving license can be used as ID proof and is valid throughout the country. The Rajasthan Motor Department is responsible for issuing permits to candidates within the state.
Rajasthan Motor Vehicles Department
The Department of Motor Vehicles in Rajasthan comprises of numerous Regional Transport Offices or RTOs and staff throughout the state. This Department is headed by the Transport Commissioner. Some of the functions of this department include issuing driving licenses and permits, registration of motor vehicles, enforcing all regulations of the Motor Vehicles Act, among others.
All in all there are 52 Regional Transport Offices across Rajasthan headed by Regional Transport Officers.
Driving License in Rajasthan
Driving license is issued in Rajasthan under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. This license can be used within any part of the country. However, in order to obtain a driving license, customers must first procure a learner’s license.
Candidates above the age of 18 can apply for a learner’s license and this is valid for 6 months. Holders of this license can only drive gearless vehicles with a capacity of 50 CC. Written consent from parents or guardians is also required. This license is applicable for a period of 6 months within which candidates must hone their driving skills. Within 180 days of this, candidates can apply for a driving license.
Procedure for Obtaining Driving License in Rajasthan
Customers can apply for the license online or through one of the RTO offices.
They will have to provide Form 4 and fill in all the required details such as age proof, address proof and so on. Applicants who are above the age of 50 will have to provide medical clearance through Form 1A.
In order to obtain a license, candidates must drive the vehicle that they wish to procure a license for as per the instructions of the RTO officer present at the test. If candidates pass the test, they will obtain a license.
Documents Required for Obtaining Driving License in Rajasthan
- Candidates will have to submit Form 4, which is available on the Rajasthan Transport Department Website.
- Three passport size photographs are required.

- Life Insurance Policy
- Pay Slip issued by the State Government, Central Government

International Driving License
Those who hold a driving license from Rajasthan can apply for an International Driving License (IDP) by filling up the respective form(s) at any of the RTO offices in Rajasthan. Customers will also have to provide details regarding the duration, intent of travel, location and so on and submit the required documents.
