Property Agents Review for Professional Estate Agencies in Serbia

How does Serbian (Serbo-Croatian) sound to foreigners?

Nikola Čulina, studied at University of Zagreb, Faculty of Science - As a native Croatian speaker, i talked to a lot of foreigners about this…most of them can’t really differentiate Slavic languages, only the people who are actually interested in those languages or have a ‘’better’’ ear.
I may be biased, but i think Serbo - Croatian is by far the most clear sounding and easy to pronounce Slavic language (or languages, if you prefer), with Serbian being a tad easier since it does not have the j letter in words such as mlijeko/mleko, ljeto/leto, etc.
We don’t have any ‘’unusual’’ sounds which are heavy to reproduce, with the exception of nj (gn in Italian) and lj (gl in Italian) which my be hard for unfamilliar speakers.
Standard Croatian is also very precise: in 99% of the cases, every letter and word is pronounced clearly. It is almost a completely phonetic language: every letter is read excatly as written. The rule is 1 letter = one sound. And it never changes depending on it’s position in the word. As always, there are a few exceptions, but really, not even worth mentioning the examples.
As for the sound itself, Croatian is kind of heavy. We have č and ć sounds, but most people tend to blend them into some sort of ‘’middle letter’’. Serbians and Bosniaks pronounce them much more precisely: you can always hear the difference between č and ć (hard ch/soft ch).
I’d always found it ironic that people associate Russian with hardness (remember the stereotypical Russian accent when speaking English), but to the the rest of Slavic speakers it sounds ridiculously soft.
With all this said, i find Polish to be by far the worst Slavic language. (i don’t think any language is ugly, but Polish is just…tonguetwisting…) Convulted and clustered ortogtaphy, and at certain points, the language melts into hissing.
Check 1:01 in this video. Even if that is a tongue twister sentence, it almost completely sounds like a long shhhhhhhhhhhh.

What is a person from Serbia called?

A person from Serbia and/or a citizen of Serbia is called Serbian. You may also be interested in what people from Serbia speak? In other words, what language do people in Serbia speak? The language that people speak in Serbia is Serbian.
Nikola Petrovic, Serbian citizen, living in Belgrade. - Nationalism should be love for your nation and country while respecting others. When it comes to Serbian nationalism, it mostly isn’t the case. Serbian nationalism is an illusion that every other nation / country is against Serbia and wants to destroy Serbia (some are still considered as friends, for example Russia). Serbian nationalism is made from lots of theories how “evil West” wants to kill Serbian citizens in many ways, for example, through food and other products, emigrants,... It may sound funny to others, but when you live with those people in the same country, you become tired and intolerant to their thoughts and theories.
Serbian nationalism is the thought that everything is unfair, everything is against Serbia, and others took everything from Serbia, even its territories. Serbs are considered as people of God, but, from my experience, I can say Serbian religion (Orthodox Christianity) is really discriminating and restricts the lives of people. The purpose of life is reproduction, and family. You cannot choose how to build your life, it must be childhood - school - university - marriage - kids - death. That’s Serbian reality.

What kind of people are Serbian people?

Predrag Maksimovich, Medical Doctor. Dental Surgeon. Specialist OTOHNS.
I’m a Serb (to make matters much, much worse, a mixture of Montenegrin, Serb, and Cincar!!!) - so, I’m highly biased!!!
Serbs are ordinary people. White, Caucasian, usually tall, with dark hair (an obvious anomaly since we are originally Slavs), athletic, good at various sports…
Very similar to Montenegrins which tend to be taller on average.
But what makes us apart (and maybe also Montenegrins) is that we built our “house” in the middle of an important crossroads sometime in the VIth century.
All surrounding big guys (Italians, Bulgarians, Byzanthines, Austrians, Hungarians, Ottoman Turks) wanted to pass through our territories either to conquer and exploit or just come to grips with the guys on the other side. Russians also had big influence and interests in these parts of the world. Albanians want(ed) to come down from their mountains in the fertile valleys below. Austro-Hungarians had a habit of importing Serbs to defend their borders and made them settle in the region called Vojna Krajina (Military Borderzone). The Croats didn’t like that and performed a genocide expelling Serbs from the Croatian territory. Similar things happened in Bosnia. And, finally, our biggest nemesis is a Germanic barbaric tribe from up North. Those guys believed that they don’t have enough space for their Aryan blood (a.k.a. Lebensraum!) and decided to extend their territory by moving East (Drang nach Osten!). However, the Russians were not keen about that plan so the Germans moved South-East.
So, our history is choc-a-bloc full of wars, occupations, rebellions, uprisings, etc.
Our main city, capital of the Republic of Serbia and all of Serbiandom, is Belgrade. A sprawling city of more than two million people, located on a hill overlooking the rivers Sava and Danube.
We are very nice and friendly to foreigners (when they come unarmed and don’t want to spread justice and democracy with cruise missiles!).
If you want to visit a beautiful country, start with Slovenia, continue with Croatia, pass through Bosnia and eat some ćevapčići and drink rakija in Serbia (bonus point if you can pronounce “ćevapčići” correctly!).
