As a Turkish citizen I would very comfortably accept that we are not as Turkic as Azerbaijani or other Turkic countries. First of all we are successors of an imperial state Ottoman Empire. By the time Ottomans conquer new lands their policy was always to force to move the people inside Ottoman Empire to avoid any potential revolts. For example (this is just an example do not scream for that) when Ottomans conquered todays Serbia they forced some Serbians to move to Anatolia to live with the Turks and in the same time they forced some Turks to move to Serbia. So by doing that you control the situation. Ottomans did that almost after each conquest and in any situation that a minority group seek for independence or look to start a civil war.
